Dearest Ashley & Abby,
Here are some things that Amy Chua's daughters were not allowed to do:
• attend a sleepover
• have a playdate
• be in a school play
• watch TV or play computer games
• choose their own extracurricular activities
• get any grade less than an A
• not be the No. 1 student in every subject except gym and drama
• not play the piano or violin.
You guys did just the opposite:
• attended numerous sleepover
• have courtless playdate
• performed in school plays and musicals
• watched TV or played computer games
• chosen your own extracurricular activities
• got grades less than an A
• not yet be the No. 1 student in every subject
• not play the piano or violin when you don't feel like it
Every child is different. Every Mum is different too. At the end of the day, what matters most is the happy and confident smiles I see on your faces.
Ashley, remembered Mum forced you to learn violin and piano when you were 4 years old? Both were struggling and I decided to drop violin and piano after one year. Suddenly, you asked me to enroll you in piano lessons at 8 years old. You were amazing. After 3 months, you could play Grade 1 piece and Mum didn't ever have to remind you to practise. The self-drive learning attitude is the most beautiful thing. Both are extremely happy each time you play the piano. To me, this is more than I could ask for.
When you played your compositions at Kieran Kor Kor's home, I was very touched by the wonderful melody.
Enjoy your childhood to the fullest.
Cheers!
Mummy Dearest
